Family reunification allows foreign nationals lawfully resident in Spain to bring their closest relatives over. It is a right recognised by the Immigration Act, but the procedure requires very specific financial, housing and documentary conditions to be met.

Who can I bring over?

You can bring over your spouse or registered partner, your children under 18 (or adult children with a disability), and your parents once you hold a long-term residence permit. The financial and documentary requirements differ in each case.

Requirements for the sponsor

The sponsor must have renewed their residence permit at least once (save in exceptional cases), have suitable housing as certified by the municipal report, and prove sufficient financial means to support the family members being brought over. The income threshold varies with the number of relatives.

Bringing parents over

To bring your parents over you must hold a national or EU long-term residence permit. You must also justify the reasons that make reunification necessary (advanced age, health grounds, lack of support). It is one of the most complex situations in practice.
