Renewing a residence and work permit is a crucial procedure that must be carried out within the statutory deadlines. A procedural error or a missing document can lead to refusal and to the loss of lawful residence in Spain.

When to renew

The renewal application may be filed during the 60 calendar days before the current permit expires. It may also be filed within 90 days after expiry without this being treated as unlawful residence, although the permit will by then have lapsed. It is essential not to let these deadlines pass.

Main requirements

Renewal requires continuity of the work activity, no criminal record, being up to date with tax and social security obligations, and proof of sufficient financial means. Personal and family circumstances, efforts towards integration and the schooling of dependent children are also taken into account.

What we do for you

We review your complete file to anticipate any problems. We verify that you meet every requirement, prepare the documents, file the application on time and monitor its progress. If the authorities request that a defect be remedied, we respond with the utmost diligence to prevent a refusal.

Renewal and change of status

Renewal can sometimes be combined with a change of status: from employed to self-employed work, from student to residence and work, and so on. We assess whether it is possible and advisable to carry out both procedures at the same time.

Requirements and documents

The requirements and the documents you will need vary with the circumstances of each case. To find out what applies to yours, get in touch with the firm and we will advise you personally.
