More informationAll three are forms of arraigo (residence granted on the basis of established ties in Spain) and share one common requirement: proving at least two years of continuous presence in Spain. What differs is how the tie is evidenced. Social arraigo relies on family ties to foreign nationals who already hold a residence permit or, failing that, on a favourable social integration report. Socio-labour arraigo is evidenced by one or more employment contracts totalling at least twenty hours a week. Socio-educational arraigo is based on being enrolled in, or taking, one of the courses set out in the Regulation. There are also family arraigo and second-chance arraigo. We will assess which one fits your particular situation.
Yes. Once you hold legal residence, your period of continuous legal residence counts towards citizenship. The general requirement is 10 years of legal residence, although shorter periods apply in some cases (2 years for nationals of Ibero-American countries, 5 years for refugees and 1 year for those born in Spain, among others).
If your application is refused, you can file an administrative appeal (recurso de reposición) or take the matter to court through judicial review (recurso contencioso-administrativo). Acting quickly is essential, because appeal deadlines are short. Our lawyers will analyse the grounds for refusal and advise you on the best strategy.
